Check a marketing email before it goes out
Paste the subject line, preheader and the email's HTML (or plain text), and the checker scores it in six areas, with a plain-English note on anything to fix. It's the quick pass to run on every campaign before you schedule it, the same checks an experienced email marketer does by eye, done in seconds.
What it checks
- Subject line: length (cut off on mobile after about 33 to 41 characters, and almost everywhere after 60), capitals, exclamation marks, emoji and spam-trigger words.
- Preheader: whether there is one (inboxes otherwise show random text from the email), its length, and whether it just repeats the subject.
- Content and links: insecure
http://links, links without UTM tags, vague "click here" links, a missing unsubscribe or preferences link, and the email's size against Gmail's 102KB clipping limit. - Accessibility: images without alt text, and heavy capitals that screen readers and people both struggle with.
- Readability: word count, reading time and a readability score.
- Timing: guidance on when to send for the kind of email it is.
How to use it
Paste the HTML from your email platform's code view, or the text if you only have a draft. Click Analyse campaign, fix the red items first, then the amber ones, and analyse again. Save a report to keep it in this browser, for example to show a manager or client what was checked.
Checking emails as a team? In Mailfois, Brand Guard runs these checks and more (Gmail clipping, Outlook, dark mode, accessibility, your own brand rules) on every email when it goes for sign-off, shows each problem in the email with the fix, and keeps a record of who approved what. Start free.
Frequently asked questions
Is the pre-send checker free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up and no limit on how many emails you check. It runs in your browser.
Is my email uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is analysed in your browser. If you save a report, it's kept in this browser on this device, not on a server.
What does it check?
The subject line (length, capitals, exclamation marks, emoji and spam-trigger words), the preheader (length, and whether it repeats the subject), links (insecure http links, missing UTM tags, vague "click here" links, and whether there's an unsubscribe link), the email's size against Gmail's 102KB clipping limit, image alt text, capitals in the body and readability.
What's a good score?
Aim to clear every red item. Red means something will hurt: a missing unsubscribe link, a subject that will be cut off, images with no alt text, or an email Gmail will clip. Amber items are worth a look; green means it's fine.
Does it check SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
Not here: those are DNS records for your sending domain, not part of the email. Use the free SPF, DKIM and DMARC checker for those.
Can it check every email client like Litmus?
No. It checks the email itself, not how 100 email clients render it. For a quick look at the inbox, use the inbox preview; for full client rendering, a testing tool like Litmus or Email on Acid does that.
